Environmental Assessment Worksheets
The purpose of an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) is to review a proposed project for the potential of “significant environmental affects”. An EAW is required for one of three reasons: 1) the project exceeds one or more size thresholds, 2) a discretionary order from the regulatory government unit, or 3) via a signed petition from at least 25 citizens. If it is determined that a project has the potential for “significant environmental affects”, then an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) will be required before the project can proceed. All project permitting is put on hold pending completion of the environmental review process.
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIFIC COMMENTS
The effort required to complete an EAW can be extensive for the project proposer and the Regulatory Government Unit (typically the County). An EAW is effective at shedding light on potential environmental affects associated with a project and allowing for informed decisions to be made, but many times concerns regarding property use come into play, which can complicate the environmental review process. Environmental Scientific has extensive experience helping project proposers and regulators work through the EAW process while advising on ways to limit environmental affects associated with a given project.
